Encourage 100 foreign students to invite them to their homes

President Lee Gil-yeo of Gachon University encourages the invitation of more than 100 foreign students to their homes

Strengthen the sense of belonging and a sense of cuteness of international students, such as experiencing traditional culture and dinner at Ga Genius

On the 19th, President Lee Gil-yeo of Gachon University invited more than 100 foreign students from China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan to host the Gachon Global Leadership Program and held dinner and various experience programs.

The event was designed to encourage foreign students and enhance their sense of belonging and a sense of cuteness. After visiting the foundation's main facilities, including Gachon University Gil Hospital and the Lee Gil-Gye Obstetrics and Gynecology Memorial Hall, the students moved to Gajin Genius to participate in traditional culture experiences, performances and dinners.

International students who arrived at Gajinjae experienced the value of traditional architecture and cultural heritage by looking around Gajinjae, which saved the beauty and historical meaning of traditional hanok architecture. Gajinjae is a traditional hanok education and exhibition hall built by the Gachon Cultural Foundation for traditional etiquette education, tea culture experience, and traditional medicine exhibitions, and is a building built by masters of national intangible cultural properties.

On the 19th, the Korean Tea Culture Association's Aionyu, Lee Seo-hee, and Kwon Joo-ah are presenting a life tea ceremony demonstration in front of Ga Genius.

In the first part of the event, the president's welcome speech, demonstration by the Korea Tea Culture Association, reading thank-you letters for international students, and traditional performances by country were held. In particular, Su Weitat (21), a Myanmar student, introduced the case of donation of scholarships to damage the earthquake in her motherland and read a thank-you letter to convey her emotion. In connection with the earthquake damage in Myanmar in March, Gachon University paid a total of 123 million won, 200,000 won per person, to ease the economic burden on Myanmar students attending Gachon University.

"In a desperate situation where people in their hometowns lost their homes due to the big earthquake and it was difficult to get water or food to drink, I was able to join the donation to help my hometown with the scholarship given by Gachon University and the president," Suwaitat said. "It was meaningful to convey a small hope to my hometown from a distance, and I will continue to be a great person who learns hard and rewards me at Gachon University."

On the 19th, Chinese Sasa and Yuyang students are singing the ancient song "Wolga" from the Spring and Autumn Period in front of Ga Genius.

In traditional performances by country, international students wore traditional costumes and performed songs containing their own culture and emotions. Mongolian Yumi student (32, female) sang "Ulemjin Chanar," which sang Buddhist philosophy and human inner beauty, and Myanmar student Miya Yunmo (21, female) sang a traditional song about the sadness of separation. Six Vietnamese students sang a mother's love song that they hope their baby will grow up safely in the midst of war, and finally, Chinese Sasai (24, female) and Yu Yang (24) performed an ancient song "Wolga," which contains the love of a woman from the Moon Dynasty during the Spring and Autumn periods.

In the second part of the dinner that followed, buffet-style meals were provided, and international students presented various talent shows, including traditional dances, Korean songs, and song performances. It was followed by a reading event of "Letters in My Heart" featuring happy moments in Korea or Gachon University, and taking commemorative photos.

President Lee said, "You are a valuable family member of Gachon University and a global talent connecting Korea and the world," and welcomed and encouraged, "I hope that you will experience the beauty of Korean tradition in Gachon University and that your time here will be a precious journey that will be remembered throughout your life."

Gachon University established the first international university in Korea in March, and currently has more than 6,700 international students, including undergraduate, graduate, and Korean language education centers. Gachon University operates a variety of exchange and support programs, including a teaching system dedicated to foreign students, buddy programs, traditional culture experiences, FC Gachon, mentoring and counseling programs, so that international students can adapt smoothly to Korean life and school life.
